ayiti, cheri
Those who know me, know that my face changes and my eyes light up when I talk about Haiti; the country I spent the last year working, growing and changing in. And it was largely due to the good people who came into my life – some friends, some strangers – many of whom exuded what can only be described as … lightness. Joy. Love.
The little girl who I came to know a few short weeks ago came to her mum from Haiti. At her tender young age she is coming to know the importance of both countries in her life – Canada and Haiti. She has the vibrancy, joie-de-vivre, love and soulfulness that is reflected in so many of her fellow people … she IS Haitian.
When I arrived at her house, to see her sitting on the front porch, she waved hello, clicked her finger and said “Cheese! Click!” before JUMPING into my arms …. I knew we’d be friends. And I knew it would be and it was joy – pure joy – to take her pictures.

The photos of this young Haitian girl are just beautiful; her face is filled with a zest for life and simple joys of the day. I know that Haiti has a special place in your heart and you must have found this opportunity to be a real joy as well as a professional challenge.
