I am so excited about this blog series idea!! For these next few weeks leading up to the holidays I am going to share with you my favourite small businesses. Being the owner of a small business, I know the crazy commitment needed to be an entrepreneur. I am so appreciative when people choose to support my business as I understand firsthand the difference it makes in supporting my family and continuing to do what I love. Small businesses need our support for this upcoming holiday season and throughout the rest of the year. So I want to share them with you so you can check them out yourselves!
Please be sure to comment, share your own favourite independent businesses and talk about shopping small and local with others!
So here I go…my first idea…..
SHOPPING SMALL BUSINESS MAKES A BIG DIFFERENCE – Idea #1
Why not start this blog series with a super event happening next week that showcases small businesses!! It’s going to be a super fun evening to get a group of friends together and make this a night out. It’s the CRAVE Calgary Holiday CRAVEings Shopping Party!
CRAVE is a book that brings together amazing entrepreneurial women and highlights the businesses they have grown. There are many cities throughout North America and Europe who have these books. I was lucky enough to be a photographer for the first edition and am currently doing shoots for the second edition as well.
So the CRAVE night on November 28th. It’s kind of like a Girls Night Out (but boys are allowed) meets shopping experience. Visual Hues will be a vendor and I can tell you this is going to be a unique event – not like your typical community sale or crafter event – because the vendors are smart local entrepreneurs with unique product and services like me! You can check out Hipband, Adventures of Little, Peekaboo Beans, Dashing Dishes, Pig’s paper Clip, Peasebloosoms, Beautygram, Wine, Women and a Paintbrush, Compassionate Beauty, Servants Anyonymous Society, Urban Venus, Rewind, Sol Swimwear, Haberman Marketing and Elan Family Wellness Centre. You can check out all the details and some of “who’s coming” here (I hear the list is still being updated so check back): check here.
I have also found out there is a “djpreneur” (a locally-owned DJ & Band Agency female owner) spinning some tunes for us all night named Mama Miche (fun!). PLUS a “real woman” modelling event of glitz and glam consignment. And massage on-site and palm reading and a wine bar. And door prizes. It’s going to be fun! I’d love to see you just to hang out and share some holiday cheer!
Venu 1008 (east Inglewood)
1008 14 ST SE
Tickets: $15 in advance or $20 at the door
Please pass on to your family and friends. And you bet there’s a give-a-way!!! I will be giving away three sets of 2 tickets to the first three people who contact Visual Hues about the event!! And I can even give you a tip… The first 100 guests at the event will receive all sorts of swag. I can’t wait to see what businesses are giving away but I do know there is a $100 gift card from Visual Hues Photography for each of those 100 guests when come to our table!
At our booth you’ll be able to look at our selection of frames and pick one up to put your favourite image in as a gift for a friend, a family member or why not yourself!! And a perfect gift for someone special on your list is a gift card from Visual Hues Photography — we’ll those available as well. Here’s an example of some of the frames we’ll have. And if you follow https://twitter.com/cravecalgary you’ll see how you can win one of two of them!!
(Oh and if you’re a small business who’d like to have a table there you might be able to still make it happen!)
I encourage you to support small business where you can this holiday season, and beyond! Can’t wait to share the next series in this blog with you in a couple days!
Thanks so much,
